Original concept, but frustrating execution
Taz Express for the Nintendo 64 offers a quirky action experience where you play as the wild Taz delivering packages without damaging them along the way. The original concept fits well with Taz's chaotic character, which I personally found to be a fun angle. Unfortunately, I found the execution of the game leaves much to be desired. The controls are clumsy and the camera often works against you, which can be particularly frustrating in the later, more difficult levels.
The graphics are colourful and the animations stay true to the distinctive Looney Tunes style, evoking a sense of nostalgia. However, the enjoyment you get from this is quickly overshadowed by the repetitive gameplay. In my opinion, the lack of variety is a missed opportunity, as there is certainly potential for an exciting and dynamic game.
Taz Express tries to bring something new to the Nintendo 64, but fails to fully realise that idea. Despite the charm of the setting and the vibrant presentation, the combination of frustrating controls and repetitive elements means the game doesn’t reach the highs it could have. It’s a shame, as the foundation for an entertaining game was definitely there.
