An on-rails shooter without a light gun
Knife Edge is an on-rails shooter. The computer controls the helicopter, and you as the player man the weapons. This type of game is designed to be played with a light gun. Unfortunately, the N64 never released a light gun. So, you'll have to aim with the joystick. It works (and you'll get used to it), but a light gun would be so much more fun and convenient. The game is enjoyable and solid, but not really outstanding. However, it does offer multiplayer options for both competitive and cooperative play.
For fans of the shooter genre, this is a fun game. For the average player, this may not be an immediate recommendation.

Arcade experience with limited controls and repetitive gameplay
Knife Edge for the Nintendo 64 is an on-rails shooter that tries to take me to an arcade-style experience in my own living room. As I navigate through futuristic landscapes, the game automatically moves through the levels while I shoot down enemies. The controls resemble a light gun game, but without the actual light gun, which makes it a bit frustrating at times. Visually, Knife Edge is decent for its time. The colourful environments and enemy designs provide some variety, although everything feels a bit blocky and limited, which holds back the experience somewhat.

The action in Knife Edge can be quite entertaining at times. Especially in co-op mode, I've enjoyed the hectic shootouts with friends. However, the lack of precision in the controls can be annoying, and the repetitive gameplay makes it hard to really get immersed in the game. I had hoped for more variety in the missions and enemies to keep the excitement going.

Knife Edge isn't a bad game for me, but it’s also not a standout title in the N64 library. It remains a decent attempt with a limited scope. For those looking for a nostalgic experience with a friend, it can still be fun, but don’t expect a top-tier performance. It's a game that keeps you occupied for a bit, but it doesn’t linger in your thoughts for long.
